Technical Support Note:

Recovering from a Failure to Boot on a Conner, Samsung, or Seagate Drive > 528 Mb.

This procedure restores the boot software on a Conner, Samsung, or Seagate hard disk partitioned with EZ-Drive software. If you follow the instructions carefully, you should not lose any data on the hard disk.

Please be certain, however, that your data is fully backed up before attempting this recovery. You may be able to access the hard disk by booting with your customized Landmark Emergency Boot Disk and choosing either menu option 1 (attempt to access the hard disk’s AUTOEXEC file) or the last menu option (exit to DOS). Do not interrupt the floppy disk boot process, or your hard disk may not be accessible.

The following instructions are guidelines only. Specific keystrokes may vary from system to system, depending on the revision levels of DOS, EZ-Drive, and the Emergency Boot Disk. Landmark Computer Labs assumes no responsibility for loss of your data. Back up your hard disk while you have the opportunity to do so!

1. Verify that you have a disk containing EZ-Drive Version 7 or above. If you do not have that version of the software, contact us for a copy. (Note: We formatted many systems using Version 5. We strongly urge you to upgrade to Version 7.) 2. Put the Landmark Emergency Boot Disk in Drive A: and boot the computer. When you reach the Emergency Boot Disk menu, choose the last option (Exit to DOS).

3. Remove the Emergency Boot Disk and put the EZ-Drive disk in Drive A:. (If the EZ-Drive disk only fits in Drive B:, then put it in Drive B: and type B:.)

4. Type EZ /MBR. Be sure to put a space between the Z and the slash. This command refreshes the hard disk's Master Boot Record. 5. Remove the disk from Drive A: and reboot the computer. It should boot normally.
